Matt is currently CEO of Jewell Advisory Group LLC. In this role, Matt leverages his 30+ years of industry experience in mergers, acquisitions, operations, sales, marketing, safety, and legal to advise transportation and logistics companies, their investors and boards on acquisitive and organic growth strategies. Additionally, Matt is an independent director on the boards of Custom Goods LLC, a Carson, California based 3PL, Highway Transport, a Knoxville, TN based chemical hauler, Allstates World Cargo, an Orlando based freight forwarder and DrayNow, a venture-capital backed start-up that created the first digital marketplace connecting intermodal freight brokers with carriers.
Prior to founding Jewell Advisory Group LLC, Matt spent 18 years at Forward Air Corporation. During his tenure, he was instrumental in growing Forward Air from a $200m niche, single segment LTL provider to a single-source, multi-mode transportation service provider with $1.6b+ in annual revenues.
During his career with Forward Air, Matt served as Chief Commercial Officer, President of Intermodal, President of Logistics Services, Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Legal Officer, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, and Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Landair Corporation (a former affiliate of Forward Air).
Prior to his career at Forward Air, Matt was a partner at the law firms of Austin & Sparks and Dennis, Corry, Porter & Smith in Atlanta where his practice specialized in providing legal counsel to many of North America’s leading transportation and logistics companies.
He graduated from Emory University with a BA in History and a Juris Doctorate.
